PROGRAM
The proposed joint industry consortium will further the development of HoseLifeTM by extending its capabilities to all brands and types of SPM hoses in current use through a focused development program involving:

  • Collection and analysis of historical operational, testing, and failure data.
  • Rubber compound ageing tests for all brands of hoses in the specific media of exposure - crude oils of varying aromatic content and seawater. (Most existing compound ageing data is for exposure in air.)
  • Addition of physics of failure models for the failure modes of all designs of SPM hoses, including corrosion.
  • Performance of testing and analysis to validate the updated code and reduce prediction uncertainties.
  • Beta testing of the updated code.
  • Transition from a standalone computer program to a web based, internet accessible tool with a centrally maintained hose property and history database.
HoseLifeTM predictions are fully probabilistic with remaining life and current probability of failure estimates computed at the 95 percent confidence level.

The consortium technical program will be two years in duration for each member. The overall schedule is open ended. For members that join the consortium after the initial kick-off, the two year schedule will begin at their date of admission. Regular program progress meetings will be held at locations suggested by consortium members.
