In times of economic uncertainty and turmoil, cost reduction becomes a primary business focus. Operators of Single Point Mooring (SPM) installations, Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, and other users of large diameter oil transfer hoses have an opportunity to realize significant cost savings by extending the life of their hoses beyond the current industry norms of service.
ETA International has recently completed initial development of HoseLifeTM, a software program for SPM hose life prediction that allows operators to safely extend the life of their hoses by as much as 100 percent, saving millions of dollars in hose replacement costs.HoseLifeTM uses physics of failure models for the primary failure modes to predict aging of the elastomers and cumulative damage to the reinforcements from the stresses experienced during hose storage and service. The program considers aging of the elastomers and accumulated damage to the reinforcements from the mechanical stresses experienced during hose storage and service. The HoseLifeTM technology is being offered as a joint industry consortium. The initial development of HoseLifeTM was based on a specific brand and type of SPM hose. The purpose of the consortium is to extend the algorithms and methodologies to cover all brands and construction types of SPM hoses and to include additional failure modes. |
